Oncology and radiation veterinary duo to provide advanced care at Southfields
Linnaeus-owned Southfields Veterinary Services in Laindon is planning to offer the most advanced cancer care for pets in Europe through a sizeable investment in facilities and technology and through a new team approach.
The veterinary referral centre will open a £16 million purpose-built hospital next year. The 40,000 sq ft hospital in Basildon will feature advanced diagnostic and radiation equipment including a Varian TrueBeam 120 MLC radiotherapy system, a fully-functioning linac and a dedicated oncology suite.
Ahead of the move, European specialist, RCVS specialist in veterinary oncology and American specialist in veterinary radiation oncology James Elliott will take on the role of head of service – lead in radiation oncology. He will team up with RCVS specialist in small animal oncology and European specialist in veterinary oncology and radiation oncology Sarah Mason, who takes on the position of head of service – lead in general oncology.
Southfields clinical director Dr Henry L’Eplattenier said: “As the titles describe, James will be taking leadership of the radiation division, whereas Sarah will lead the non-radiation division, although I must stress that both Sarah and James will continue to take responsibility for oncology patients across the whole range of available treatment modalities.”
