C-arm addition enables Neath Port Talbot Hospital to expand theatre capability

Neath Port Talbot Hospital has invested in a Philips UKI BV Endura 12″ C-arm. The hospital is part of the Swansea Bay University Health Board and is the smaller of its three sites. The new equipment will be used to expand the capability of its operating theatres.

Senior radiographer David Arnold said: “The new equipment has allowed us to expand our service and increase our theatre capability to provide elective orthopaedic surgery alongside spinal and urology cases, thereby doubling our capacity and availability. We purchased the Philips equipment to enable us to run two theatres at any time. Previously with only one image intensifier it was very difficult to expand our service, and with availability being a big factor in purchasing this unit, Philips’ response and its quick acquisition has allowed us to proceed with very little delay.”

The BV Endura is a versatile surgical imaging system that is engineered to handle open and minimally invasive surgery, from fracture repair to spinal surgery and from vascular to general surgical procedures.

With a counterbalanced C-arm, the stand itself has compact front and rear-wheel steering for easy manoeuvrability and positioning, while the intelligent design of the Mobile View Station provides the user with good viewing and connectivity capabilities. It comes with either a 9″ or 12″ image intensifier for a range of applications, offering extended angulation of up to 135 degrees for increased projection flexibility.

“We particularly like the BV Endura’s ease of use and good wi-fi connectivity, and also the excellent image quality we are obtaining,” added Arnold. “Handover of the system was very smooth and the training from Philips was excellent.”
