BIR delivers awards at congress

BIR vice president external affairs Dr Stephen Harden, University of Erlangen professor of cardiology Professor Stephen Achenbach and BIR president Andy Rogers.

At the BIR annual congress in November, professor of cardiology at University of Erlangen, Germany, Stephan Achenbach was awarded the Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Memorial Award, following delivery of his lecture ‘Clinical applications of coronary CTA – view of a cardiologist’.

In 2002-2003, Professor Achenbach was a research fellow at the department of radiology and division of cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, USA.  He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cardiovascular CT.  From 2005 to 2007, Professor Achenbach served as the president of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.  His research interests include cardiac imaging by MRI and CT with a special focus on non-invasive imaging of the coronary arteries.  He has published more than 550 scientific papers on these topics in peer-reviewed journals.

Professor Achenbach said: “I am delighted to receive this special award which is so closely linked with the pioneer of CT, Sir Godfrey Hounsfield to whom we owe so much.”
