DEOS marks a decade supporting healthcare data transfer

DEOS Silver Bullet Airstream

DEOS Consulting is celebrating 10 years of securely transferring medical imaging data, supporting multiple NHS trusts. Initially funded with a grant from the UK Space Agency, the company, headquartered in Taunton, has since acquired 18 NHS trust contracts alongside partnerships with private healthcare providers.

Following the rollout of its first Silver Bullet Airstream van, mobile screening vans using DEOS technology have been adopted by trusts including University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

The DEOS system enables the secure transfer of medical images from mobile screening units directly to hospital PACS using mobile network and satellite technology. Cancer Research UK analysis found approximately 89,800 cancer cases were detected by the three national screening programmes (breast, cervical and bowel) in England from 2019 to 2023.

DEOS managing director Viv Barrett said: “This growth is not just about numbers, it’s about the meaningful change we’re driving in healthcare delivery. Trusts and private providers alike are seeking to improve efficiency, decrease time-consuming manual tasks and ensure important staff such as radiographers and assistant practitioners can use their professional skills to the advantage of the service instead of transporting medical information to and from the hospital.”
