Toshiba clinical applications specialist Shane Hanlon with sonographer Ellen Duggan, consultant paediatric and fetal cardiologist Dr Orhan Uzun and Llanelli sonographers Andrea Thomas, Lynne Davies and Leigh Silcox.
Toshiba Medical Systems recently provided technical support for a fetal cardiology training and teaching activity held at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, which was led by Dr Orhan Uzun, consultant paediatric and fetal cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales.
The day included theoretical lectures on various cardiac outflow tract defects and demonstrations of previously recorded case studies on cardiac inflow and outflow tract abnormalities.
Sonographers received hands-on training on an Aplio XG system. The session was part of structured ongoing training to increase knowledge of antenatal fetal cardiac screening in Wales.
The programme is spearheaded by Dr Uzun, who, since the start of the programme has visited almost all south Wales hospitals to train sonographers, midwives, obstetricians and radiologists in fetal heart scanning techniques and the diagnosis of congenital cardiac abnormalities.
