Position title
Registered healthcare science practitioner (clinical technologist)/radiographer - band 6
Organisation

The Christie

Description

We are seeking an experienced, methodical healthcare science practitioner with problem solving skills.

The role:

The successful applicant will join a growing team of ~25 (scientists, technologists and administrators).  A focus of the role will be undertaking equipment performance testing and radiation protection surveys, including data analysis and reporting writing.  Applicants should have excellent scientific and interpersonal skills, be patient focused and flexible to change, when quality can be improved.  A radiographer or engineer with relevant experience in the field of diagnostic radiology/radiation protection may be suitable for this post.

About you:

  • You are qualified to degree level in a STEM subject and have professional registration with the Register of Clinical Technologists, or HCPC as a HCS practitioner or radiographer (or equivalent experience).
  • You have experience in operating/testing diagnostic x-ray equipment across a range of modalities such as dental, RAD/CR/DR, fluoroscopy. Experience in CT and/or mammography is desirable.
  • You are able to work both independently and as part of a team, carrying out commissioning and routine testing as well as problem solving and performing investigations into faults with equipment performance issues.
  • You should have a good working knowledge of the relevant UK legislation and protection principles, as well as good knowledge of radiation physics, including instrumentation.
  • You are willing to travel frequently to hospitals in the north-west and willing to stay overnight infrequently for customers at more distant sites.

About us:

The Christie Medical Physics and Engineering, Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Protection team provide medical physics support across the broad range of scientific and legislative matters encountered in diagnostic radiology.  We are a large regional service and provide support to NHS and independent sector radiology departments in the north-west of England.  Further information can be found on our website (www.christie.nhs.uk/cmpe).

The Christie hospital is located four miles to the south of Manchester, in close proximity to Didsbury and Chorlton where there are many independent shops, restaurants and bars.  Manchester is a hub for sport, music and culture as well as a friendly, vibrant city.  There are a number of National Parks nearby and, for travelling further afield, Manchester International Airport is minutes away while London is only two hours by train.

Want to know more?

Please note that this role is in diagnostic radiology physics, not radiotherapy or nuclear medicine. It is not a ‘radiography post’ nor patient-facing.  However, radiographers with experience of performing QA on diagnostic equipment hoping for a change of field would be suitable candidates.  Successful candidates who meet all the criteria will be appointed at band 6.  Those with sufficient relevant experience who do not meet the full criteria may be appointed on band 5 until deemed sufficiently trained and competent.
