Medica unveils digital service to help pathologists handle higher caseloads

Provider of telehealth solutions Medica has unveiled its digital pathology service MedPath at a state-of-the-art laboratory facility in Runcorn.

The launch in November 2023 offered an insight into the technology and expertise that MedPath brings to the healthcare industry, with a particular focus on its impact in the NHS and private healthcare sector.

MedPath digital pathology service has been developed to expedite and enhance the accuracy of tissue sample diagnoses, using high resolution scanners and cloud-based software. MedPath is led by a team of experienced pathologists, supported by biomedical scientists and IT specialists, who are committed to upholding stringent quality and security standards.

After the ribbon cutting, there were presentations from a panel of experts including Medica clinical director of pathology Dr Kishore Gopalakrishnan. Biomedical scientist and pathology hub manager Rachael Nicholson performed a demonstration of the Epredia P1000 scanner.

Director of corporate development Kevin Terrins has been at the forefront of developing MedPath. He has extensive experience of working within and alongside the NHS and created this service to support pathology departments with a solution that is scalable and flexible. He explained: “MedPath will serve to streamline the process of slide prep-aration, sharing and review, driving improved workflow efficiency; ultimately allowing pathologists to handle a higher caseload with the same resources.”
