MicroMaxx for Nottingham

Advanced nurse practitioner Nicola Watson with the SonoSite MicroMaxx.

SonoSite’s MicroMaxx point-of-care ultrasound system is being used at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust for the diagnosis and monitoring of megarectum in children with chronic constipation.

Nicola Watson, advanced nurse practitioner specialising in paediatric gastrointestinal investigation, said: “Using ultrasound for diagnosis and ongoing management of megarectum is useful, allowing us to instantly visualise changes in the size of the rectum and show children and their parents exactly what’s going on. We can then use these images to monitor change and demonstrate a tangible benefit to sticking to the medication and dietary advice.
