Need for retakes is now reduced

Maidstone Hospital in Kent, part of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, has installed an Axiom Luminos dRF digital system from Siemens Healthcare.

It is being used in approximately 10 fluoroscopy examinations a week for those undergoing barium enemas and barium swallows and used for general radiography the remainder of the time.

Says Siemens: “The system is ideal for these procedures, producing brilliant digital images with broad coverage, even in the four corners, on its 43cm x 43cm flat detector.”

The wide travel range of the image receptor and tabletop also mean that patient repositioning is unnecessary in most cases.

The Luminos dRF has advanced post-processing features.  Its enhanced DiamondViewPlus software optimises the detail contrast and noise level of images to further improve quality and reduce the need for retakes.

“The Luminos is a far more user-friendly option than our previous fluoroscopy unit,” said Hilda Woolmington, lead superintendent radiographer at Maidstone Hospital.  “Not only is it accessible for those using it on a daily basis, it’s also great for patients.  The tabletop can be lowered enough to mean that it’s suitable for the wide range of people we see in the department, including disabled patients or those with limited mobility.”
