Golden rules for trauma plain films
Trauma presenting to the emergency department encompasses a wide range of injuries. Major trauma is the largest cause of morbidity and mortality in patients under 40 years old and is increasingly becoming a problem in the older population, particularly secondary to falls which have the potential to cause significant injury where there is underlying frailty. Imaging has a vital role to play in early assessment of the nature and extent of injuries, with advances in whole body CT leading to significant improvement in survival in patients with polytrauma.
