The role of MRI in radiotherapy is expanding due to its excellent soft tissue contrast, the availability of numerous functional imaging techniques, the possibility of obtaining treatment planning scans without ionising radiation and the opportunities offered by hybrid MR-linac systems. In this article we aim to briefly highlight aspects associated with the inclusion of MRI into the radiotherapy treatment planning and delivery pathway, and address benefits and challenges associated with this growing field.
