Stafford Hospital offers a less painful therapy for varicose veins

When varicose veins are left untreated, the condition can progress to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and result in symptoms that worsen over time, including pain, swelling and fatigue of the legs, skin changes and ulcers in more severe cases.

At Stafford Hospital, consultant vascular surgeon Mr Robin Calderwood has combined the capability of Covidien’s Venefit minimally invasive procedure with the imaging quality of a GE Healthcare Logiq e ultrasound system to guide the catheter into the optimum position.  He said: “With the Venefit procedure, patients achieve the same results but experience much less pain and bruising compared to traditional surgery and a recovery period equivalent to laser ablation, while the Logiq e gives me confidence that I am getting the treatment precisely to the right place.”
