UME Diagnostics invests in lower dose technology

At UME Diagnostics are Dr Peter Barker, managing director Karen Miller, senior radiographer Heather Weeks, regional operations manager Mark Drew and senior radiographer Katrina Grimsey.
UME Diagnostics has installed high-definition, low-dose Discovery CT750 HD scanners from GE at its centres in Sevenoaks, Brentwood and Weybridge. The scanners deliver up to 33% improved resolution images across the entire body and cut radiation exposure to patients by up to 50% compared with existing CT technologies.
At the core of the scanner is the GE Gemstone detector, built with what is claimed to be the first new CT scintillator in 20 years and based on a garnet gemstone. “With the industry’s fastest primary speed and afterglow performance, the Gemstone detector enables spatial resolution improvements of up to 33% for routine body imaging,” states GE.
