BMI Mount Alvernia’s PETCT addition is a network first

Guildford MP Rt Hon Anne Milton was at BMI Mount Alvernia Hospital to help mark the opening of the hospital’s PETCT services. Milton cut the ribbon alongside BMI Healthcare ceo Karen Prins and consultant radiologist Dr Tony Lopez, ceo of imaging investment partner The Imaging Clinic

The Biograph mCT scanner from Siemens Healthineers is the first of its kind across the BMI Healthcare private hospital network in England, Scotland and Wales and represents a significant investment into cancer services. The system has a 78cm bore, short 135cm tunnel and 227kg table capacity to enable imaging of heavier patients and easier positioning. The hospital underwent a significant redesign to house the new scanner.

Hospital executive director Leon Newth added: “Our aim was to provide quicker on-site access to diagnostics. We know that quicker, more accurate diagnosis leads to prompter treatment and, therefore, better patient outcomes. We have invested in equipment that not only provides the highest quality diagnosis to facilitate our radiology team, but the gently changing mood lighting and newly-developed suite help to relax patients during examinations to further improve the experience.”

Consultant radiologist Dr Tony Lopez added: “Adding the Biograph mCT to the clinic’s existing Siemens Healthineers platform completes the cancer imaging portfolio at Mount Alvernia.”
