Leading name in POCUS embarks on new venture

Founder of Sonosite Kevin Goodwin has launched a new point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) company, EchoNous.

Sonosite is said to have been the first company to build and sell diagnostic hand-carried ultrasound devices. The arrival of affordable, quality medical ultrasound imaging that could be easily carried from patient to patient was the foundation for what is now known as POCUS.

In a recent interview, Goodwin outlined his strategy for his comeback venture into POCUS: “EchoNous was formed around the idea of creating an extremely high quality, diagnostic grade, hand-carried ultrasound product. We combine the advanced extreme miniaturisation technology on the product with deep learning and computer vision to enable people to use, learn and become confident faster, adding value to the way ultrasound is being used and adopted in medicine.

“Currently we are deploying our hardware and software platforms into hospitals and medical institutions worldwide and we have more very exciting AI functionality coming soon. We are also introducing our linear probe to complete our transducers selection, enabling Kosmos to scan the whole body. We also have the ability to plug into an Android tablet that uses the advanced technology level required to do the AI computing on the edge, which is vital in educational and learning environments.”
