Asset tracking project at Plymouth trust gains award recognition

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has won ‘Best global implementation in healthcare’ at the RFID Journal awards.

Judges were impressed with how the trust has implemented a radio frequency identification (RFID) system to track its database of 40,000 medical assets.

Medical device asset register developer Alex Peters said: “I am so proud to have been a part of this project and to receive the trophy on behalf of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust alongside our suppliers RFiD Discovery. This is 100 per cent their award as much as it is ours, as we couldn’t have done it without them.”

The track and trace solution was supplied by RFiD Discovery, part of Paragon ID. It is helping to improve operational efficiency, cut costs and further the trust’s goal of improving patient safety. The data provided by the system can be used to improve workload reporting and planning.
