Needle guidance at Stobhill

Consultant rheumatologist Dr Hilary Wilson and musculoskeletal physiotherapist Diane Moss.

Rheumatologists at Glasgow’s Stobhill Hospital are making the most of a point-of-care MicroMaxx ultrasound system from SonoSite for diagnostic and needle-guidance applications in a range of arthritic conditions.

Consultant rheumatologist Dr Hilary Wilson said the system is currently used for determining the site of shoulder pathology, detecting synovitis and facilitating intra-articular steroid injections.

“We have also requested additional smaller probes specifically designed for scanning small joints, which will allow us to detect the presence of erosions and synovitis in the feet and hands more easily.”
