Development and support of palliative care point-of-care ultrasound

My first introduction to ultrasound in a palliative care setting was at the beginning of 2018 when the then ultrasound business development manager at Siemens Healthineers informed me that she had just installed a new laptop-based system, the Acuson P500, at the local Marie Curie Hospice in Liverpool. The system had been part of a batch purchase by Marie Curie headquarters, from a charitable donation, with the aim of allowing the hospices to be able to undertake certain procedures locally rather than having to transfer patients/clients into a secondary care hospital setting. The clinical director of the unit was keen for assistance with governance, scope of practice and some basic training in the use of the equipment and asked the business development manager at Siemens if she knew of anyone who would be able to help.
