Uterine fibroid embolisation
Uterine fibroids (leiomyomas) are the most common benign tumours of the female genital tract, with an incidence of above 70% in Caucasian women; even higher in Afro-Caribbeans.
Patients seeking treatment commonly present with symptoms of menorrhagia (and anaemia), pelvic pain, or bulk symptoms (abdominal bloating, urinary frequency /nocturia, constipation and lower back pain). Surgery remains the most common form of treatment, including hysterectomy, laparoscopic and vaginal myomectomies, which all have their own associated outcomes.
