Canon’s noise reduction software offers sharper imaging

Canon Medical Components Europe has introduced Intelligent Noise Reduction (Intelligent NR), a deep learning solution now available to UK healthcare providers through partner Xograph Healthcare.
Built on a sophisticated algorithm developed using machine learning and an extensive clinical image database, the neural network is trained to recognise and remove noise from the medical images. The result is a reduction in image graininess, producing clearer, more diagnostic images without loss of crucial anatomical detail.
In the UK, supplier Xograph Healthcare provides seamless integration of Intelligent NR into existing workflows, with support for Canon’s x10 and Elite series flat panel detectors, subject to software and specifications.
A feature of Canon’s Intelligent NR is its alignment with the ALARA principle. “By enabling substantial reductions in radiation dose, the technology supports the drive for dose optimisation in medical imaging,” Xograph says. “Comparative images show that, even at half the conventional dose, images processed with Intelligent NR maintain clarity and diagnostic value. This ensures that clinicians can make confident diagnoses, even at lower doses. By consistently delivering high quality images on the first attempt, the technology reduces the need for repeat exposures.”
