Magentus addresses NHS planning framework

The NHS England Medium-Term Planning Framework 2026-2029 sets out ambitious targets that require a shift in how diagnostic services are delivered. With goals like treating 92 per cent of patients within 18 weeks, reducing diagnostic waiting times to under six weeks for 99 per cent of patients, and treating 85 per cent of cancer patients within 62 days, the framework places imaging services at the centre of system-wide transformation. Achieving this will require faster access to imaging, improved reporting workflows and better use of technology to support clinical decision making, says health technology company Magentus.
As one of the providers already supporting NHS imaging teams in this effort, Magentus’ radiology information system Cris enables image sharing across NHS networks, streamlining workflows through interoperable systems and automation, and providing tools that enable more efficient, digitally-enabled care. The framework also calls for two per cent annual productivity improvements, driven by smarter working and digital transformation. This could include shared reporting pools and AI tools that assist with triage, such as flagging urgent abnormalities on x-rays. These features are designed to help clinicians prioritise cases and manage increasing demand.
Looking ahead, the NHS Federated Data Platform will require providers to share diagnostic data securely and at scale. Magentus is preparing its systems to support open standards and national interoperability, ensuring imaging data can be used to inform broader system planning and performance monitoring.
Magentus MD of clinical diagnostics, EMEA, Marlen Suller commented: “We know that delivering timely, accurate diagnoses makes a real difference to patients and staff.
“The framework challenges all of us to think differently about how we use technology and data. We’re committed to supporting these changes with secure and scalable systems that help build a more connected, efficient and patient-centred NHS.”
