Connected workflow is boosted as Magentus adds further functionality to its RIS

As national targets continue to be missed and waiting times remain high, diagnostic capacity has become a defining constraint on the wider health system, says health technology company Magentus. Radiology departments are having to find ways to use limited time and clinical expertise more effectively.

Meeting this challenge requires systems that support cross-site working and give clinicians clearer oversight of how work is prioritised and allocated. This is shaping the current development of Cris, said to be the most widely used RIS in England, with Magentus introducing three new web-based modules.

Cris Vetting supports earlier clinical decision making by enabling requests to be reviewed, prioritised and protocolled electronically before they reach the scanner. A radiologist can record a protocol at the point of vetting, reducing clarification queries later and avoiding delays when demand exceeds capacity.

Cris Reporting tackles the complexity of managing reporting workload across teams and sites. Configurable worklists filter cases by speciality, urgency or local rules, supporting fairer allocation and clearer oversight. Built-in peer review and supervised reading mean quality and training happen within routine work.

Cris Scheduler focuses on patient flow. By identifying the earliest appropriate appointment and location for each patient, it helps departments fill slots and reduce missed appointments.

“These developments are particularly important as imaging reorganises around regional and cross-site models of care,” said clinical lead Philip Brentnall. “Imaging networks will depend on shared visibility, consistent prioritisation and the ability to move work safely between teams while retaining clinical control.”
