DEOS looks to the future, backed by a decade of data delivery

Under the leadership of managing director Viv Barrett, Somerset-based technology company DEOS Consultancy has spent the last decade transforming how patient data travels from community-based vehicles directly to hospital specialists.
DEOS initially grew from a vision supported by the UK Space Agency. Today, it supports 18 NHS trusts and numerous private healthcare providers nationwide, monitoring high speed data connections for hundreds of mobile radiology units. By pioneering a secure, hybrid blend of 5G, 4G and satellite technology, DEOS allows complex diagnostic scans to be securely transferred straight into hospital PACS networks in under five minutes.
The company is soon to deploy its data solutions to optimise diagnostic pipelines at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This sits alongside a portfolio of national projects, including major regional hubs in Liverpool, Southampton and the North Midlands, where DEOS ensures rapid breast and lung cancer screening transfers.
“Reflecting on our journey, it’s clear that robust connectivity has shifted from a luxury to an absolute necessity in mobile radiology,” said Barrett. “I’m incredibly proud of the role DEOS plays in driving this progress. As we look ahead, our goal is to scale these capabilities even further, expanding our reach to ensure that no matter where a mobile unit is deployed in the UK, clinicians have instantaneous access to life-saving data.”
