UCLH ensures continuity with another Horizon DXA scanner

The nuclear medicine department at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) has received a new Hologic Horizon A DXA scanner, marking another milestone in its long-standing relationship with Hologic DXA and Vertec Scientific. The transition to the new system was completed efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to clinical services and patient care.

Prior experience of Hologic DXA equipment meant that staff required minimal additional training before the new scanner became operational. This familiarity enabled them to maintain a seamless workflow throughout the installation process and continue delivering high quality diagnostic services.

A key element of the upgrade was a comprehensive cross-calibration exercise, carried out by Vertec Scientific’s engineering and applications specialists. The process ensures continuity of serial studies, allowing patient results obtained on the new scanner to remain directly comparable with those from the previous system. This is particularly important for monitoring long-term changes in bone mineral density and maintaining confidence in clinical decision making.

A range of advanced features and enhanced capabilities is designed to improve workflow and assessment quality. The UCLH team is looking forward to incorporating these new tools into everyday practice, further strengthening the service provided to both clinicians and patients.
