Conversation around AI has moved from innovation to integration, says xWave

According to xWave Technologies, one of the strongest messages taken away from the RCR Global AI Conference was that the conversation around AI is maturing. The company believes the challenge is no longer simply developing innovative technology, but ensuring it can be adopted safely, integrated into clinical practice and deliver meaningful benefits for patients.
“Our position is that AI and intelligent clinical decision support should not sit outside the diagnostic pathway as a separate layer of innovation,” xWave stated. “It should be embedded into the way diagnostic services are requested, referred, justified and improved over time. Across the NHS, diagnostic services are increasingly being planned and governed at system level, while the technology that supports ordering and workflow often remains fragmented across trusts, sites and specialities. This creates challenges for referrers, clinicians, operational teams and system leaders who need consistent pathways, better visibility, improved referral quality and measurable benefits.”
xWave says it is focused on supporting diagnostic digital convergence by creating a shared regional layer for diagnostic requesting, clinical decision support, referral routing, vetting workflow, scheduling optimisation and insight.
“This is not about replacing every downstream system at once. It is about helping NHS organisations move from fragmented, pre-acquisition work ow towards a consistent and measurable diagnostic operating model.
“Through xWave Refer Order Comms and xWave Clinical Decision Support, our aim is to help clinicians make informed decisions at the point of referral while providing governance and operational teams with the insight needed to improve pathways, understand variation and measure the impact of change over time.”
