Letterkenny takes further steps towards recovery

News

Saolta University Health Care Group clinical director and consultant radiologist Dr Colm O’Donnell, CT superintendent radiographer Ray Birrell, CT and radiology porter Paddy Fox, radiographers Michelle McDaid, Suzanne Robinson, Breege Cunningham and Grania McGinty and Philips Healthcare account manager Morgan Evers.

Letterkenny General Hospital, Co Donegal, is making progress towards normal services following significant flood damage, with the acquisition of a Philips Ingenuity 128-slice CT scanner.  Sixty per cent of hospital services were affected and it was likely to be several months before the hospital returned to pre-flood conditions.  The installation represents a step on the way to normality, as the hospital had been using mobile scanners.

CT superintendent radiographer Ray Birrell said: “Patient scanning and post-image processing is very logical.  Performing routine tests such as quality assurance is fast and easy; results are automated and recorded on the system.  Philips provides us with excellent support and we are looking forward to developing our service and restarting our cardiac CT and CT colonography service.”
