A hit in intensive care

The intensive care unit at Nottingham University Hospital has acquired a SonoSite M-Turbo point-of-care ultrasound system for diagnostic and ultrasound-guided procedures.

Dr Martin Beed, consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, explained: “We use the system for a variety of applications, including traditional line and chest drain placement and especially when placing Seldinger chest drains.”

“We have a significant number of patients with coagulopathies who have a high risk of bleeding and so it is particularly important that we use ultrasound guidance for them.”
