City Hospital in Birmingham has installed a Magnetom Avanto 1.5 Tesla system from Siemens Healthcare.  The hospital is part of Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Avanto is said to combine fast image acquisition with a reduction in acoustic noise. Birmingham is using it for a range of general examinations and peripheral angiography scans are being offered to patients for the first time.

Its syngo software applications are assisting workflow.  syngo Inline Technology enables certain processing steps during the image reconstruction stage and to display them immediately. The syngo Blade application acquires multiple low resolution data sets and combines them to make one motion free, high quality image.

“We have noticed a huge difference in our MRI service,” said CT/MRI superintendent radiographer Sarah Osborn.  “Aside from a range of new scanning options, we also have the flexibility to carry out faster or more complex examinations.”
