The acquisition of a Toshiba Aplio XG will enable South Tyneside Hospital’s antenatal clinic to extend the service it offers to include nuchal translucency scanning.

Leading midwife sonographer Alison Shepherd said: “The Aplio XG met the National Screening Committee’s standards for the use of ultrasound to perform NT in the combined test for Down’s syndrome.

“We find the system very user-friendly with several useful functions specific to NT imaging, including the capability to post-freeze processing, and the possibility to link in with the computer system to archive imaging, which is another standard of the NSC.”
