Bedford appreciates latest mammo equipment

News

Hologic breast health sales specialist John McMahon, radiology services manager Christian Kasmerdis, specialist radiographer Miki Gallagher, consultant radiographer breast imaging Sarah Rainford, HCA Glenys Wiltshire, consultant radiologist Dr George Stasinos and specialist radiographer Barbara Jaggard.

Bedford Hospital’s breast unit has expanded its diagnostic service having purchased a Hologic Selenia Dimensions 2D Mammography system with 3D compliant capability so that the equipment can be easily upgraded.  The breast unit deals with symptomatic and assessment work and also accepts referrals from the screening service offered by Luton and Dunstable NHS Foundation Trust.

Consultant radiographer breast imaging Sarah Rainford said: “Our consultant radiologists, in particular Dr George Stasinos, were very keen to have a system that gave us flexibility.  We were particularly keen to include in our purchase package an interventional option and so chose the Hologic Affirm breast biopsy guidance system.  We found that the 10 degree angle needle position addressed many of the previous difficulties we had experienced.”
