Blackburn’s neck lump clinic adds own ultrasound system

Seated in front are nurse practitioner Sarah Fitch and staff nurse Lisa Richardson. Standing are ENT consultant Mr Paddy Morar, sister Angela De Vito, specialist nurse Vanessa Donnelly, ENT consultant Mr Antonio Belloso and Toshiba Medical Systems ultrasound applications specialists Paula Connor and Lynn Parkington.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation has funded a Toshiba Xario 200 ultrasound system for use in the one-stop neck lump clinic at Royal Blackburn Hospital.  The foundation supports the regional specialist cancer centre as local cancer units across the north west.

With the new equipment, the clinic’s patients can be scanned within the unit instead of waiting for an appointment in radiology, and receive the result of scans immediately.  It will also facilitate biopsy procedures.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust ENT consultant Mr Paddy Morar said: “The scanner is an easy to use machine with a very good resolution of structures in the neck.”
