Edited by three heavyweight MSK radiologists, with excellent chapter authors, this is an authoritative tome. The book is divided into two sections: part one is imaging techniques and procedures and part 2 is clinical problems. In part one there is a thorough coverage of plain film, CT, MRI and ultrasound techniques for imaging the ankle and foot. There is also a very helpful chapter on intra-articular injections under ultrasound and fluoroscopy.

Section two covers all the major clinical problems that are encountered in the foot and ankle. There are chapters on congenital disorders, trauma, ankle pain, neuropathy, infection and stress injury, for example. Metabolic bone disease, diabetes and inflammatory arthritis are also covered well. As you expect with a book originating from Birmingham there is chapter on tumours and tumour-like lesions, which can be challenging in practice and are explained really well here.

If you were ever unsure what particular orthopaedic hardware had been placed in the foot and ankle there is a chapter that will decode this for you, with excellent images of the full range of internal and external fixation.

The book is well referenced, allowing you to peruse the original literature at your leisure. The quality of the diagrams and diagnostic images is good, as you would expect in a Springer publication. I would recommend this book to anyone who reports imaging or performs interventions in the foot and ankle.
