BPAS recruiting sonographers

British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is an independent healthcare charity which, for more than 55 years, has been advocating and caring for women and couples who decide to end a pregnancy.

Sonographers are vital to the abortion care service that BPAS provides and in the last 18 months there has been significant investment in new ultrasound equipment with more than 60 new ultrasound machines having been purchased.

“Seeing in a new year is often a time to reflect on where we are and where we want to be. For many, it’s a time to dust off the gym shoes, tackle the growing pile of books on the bedside table and take stock of career goals and aspirations,” said BPAS lead sonographer Melissa Grant. “It’s an incredibly exciting time to join the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS), and we are on the lookout for more sonographers to join our rapidly growing team.

“What sets us apart is our woman-centred approach. Having worked both in the NHS and the private sector for many years, I am now very happy to be able to use my scanning and leadership skills, to have a positive impact on the women accessing pregnancy services at BPAS. I am supporting women, when they are at their most vulnerable, providing non-judgemental, quality care and I feel very fortunate to be a part of providing such an important service,” Grant explained.

Ultrasound scanning at BPAS is not just about performing high quality ultrasound scans, it is also about liaising with a multidisciplinary team and training and supporting nurse and midwife practitioners who scan too. BPAS is committed to a continuous, proactive attitude towards improvements to the ultrasound service.

“As a sonographer at BPAS, you will be performing high quality obstetric dating scans as well as gynaecological scans to assess for RPOC (retained products of conception). You will be client focused and a team player, providing support and mentorship to others in the team. And you will be a leader in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound,” continued Grant.

“At BPAS, we pride ourselves on being a flexible employer of choice, and offer staff a variety of employee benefits. These include generous annual leave, ‘family friendly’ work hours, and pension scheme. But most importantly, we live by our BPAS values of being compassionate, courageous, credible, and committed to women’s choice.”

At a time when reproductive rights are under attack it is more important than ever before to provide timely and safe access to reproductive choice.

If you’re after a highly rewarding and flexible workplace, and want to be part of the continuous improvement of ultrasound services at BPAS apply today.
