BSMS course offers broad platform for nuclear medicine education

The Nuclear Medicine Postgraduate Course at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) has been designed to meet the needs of the multiprofessional nuclear medicine team, including doctors (physicians and radionuclide radiologists), radiographers, technologists and nurses. It is also expected to be of interest to oncologists and scientists, amongst others. Teaching is given online, supplemented by prescheduled online seminars to allow students and teachers time for discussion and to get to know one another.
There are three formal postgraduate qualification levels: Postgraduate Certificate (three modules), Postgraduate Diploma (six modules) and MSc (six modules and a research thesis). Modules are also available as stand-alone courses. The five scientific/clinical nuclear medicine modules cover all educational aspects of diagnosis and therapies and there are professional development modules including cross-sectional anatomy for nonradiologists, leadership/change management, teaching/communication and research methods/critical appraisal.
The programme is led by Professor Sabina Dizdarevic with deputy lead Dr Charlotte Fowler. Professor Dizdarevic said: “We are so delighted with how this course is running. It provides a broad platform for education of the nuclear medicine workforce under the leadership of 13 module leads who are all nationally and internationally renowned educators with multiprofessional backgrounds: Dr Sarah Allen, Vicky Gibson, Dr Alexis Corrigan, Dr Nitasha Singh, Dr Iosif Mendichovszky, Dr Brent Drake, Dr Nicolas Eftychiou, Dr Maryam Jessop, Dr John Buscombe, Dr Stefan Vöö, Dr Amy Eccles, Dr Vineet Prakash and Dr Fowler, supported by external examiners Dr Teresa Szyszko and Professor Neil Hartman.” Registrations are open online via the Brighton and Sussex Medical School website.
