Cardiff University is set use advanced MRI technology in its new Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) in a bid to make the centre one of the top brain imaging facilities in Europe.
Currently under construction, the centre will play a pivotal role in the global effort to better understand the causes of neurological conditions such as dementia, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis, and will be aided by a partnership with Siemens Healthcare.
Four new Siemens MR systems will be installed into the facility early next year – a Magnetom 7.0T, a Magnetom Connectom 3.0T Scanner with 300mT/m gradients and two Magnetom Prisma systems. This will be the first UK installation of the Connectom 3.0T and the second in the world, with the first installed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA.
