Clinical decision support tools ensure referrals are appropriate from the outset

xWave Technologies says it is redefining radiology workflows with a new generation of AI-driven clinical decision support (CDS) tools. The company’s mission is to help every patient get the best test first, while giving time back to clinicians and strengthening NHS capacity.

Over the past 12 months, xWave says it has built significant traction with 11 NHS trusts and national imaging providers across the UK, demonstrating both the scalability and real-world impact of its platform. These deployments are already helping to reduce inappropriate imaging, ease waiting lists and unlock clinical capacity. xWave CDS integrates directly into existing order communications, enabling referrers to access evidence-based imaging
guidance seamlessly.

The company says that the no-click approach ensures that referrals are appropriate from the outset, improving patient safety and reducing unnecessary imaging, while minimising disruption to workflow. Smart Vetting advances the triage and justification stage by automating referral vetting. Using embedded guideline logic, it flags referrals as urgent or routine according to local rules. By reducing manual checks, Smart Vetting delivers faster turnaround, more consistent outcomes, and frees radiologists from administrative work.

Smart Audit completes the loop by reviewing referrals retrospectively. Its interactive dashboards, appropriateness scoring and structured feedback loops empower providers and payers with actionable insights. “The result is continuous quality improvement, stronger clinical governance and reduced costs,” xWave states. “Together, these three products support NHS trusts in achieving both clinical excellence and economic sustainability.”
