Digital specimen system saves time

The histopathology department at Cork University Hospital has taken delivery of a Bioptics piXarray digital specimen radiography system.  It is being used to image specimens, including core biopsies, paraffin blocks, excision biopsies, wide local excision specimens and mastectomy specimens.

Consultant pathologist Dr Fionnuala O’Connell explains: “Our ability to image specimens within the department has saved much time and made our laboratory processes more efficient and accurate.”

Dr O’Connell’s histopathology department chose the larger 15cm x 10cm detector model of the piXarray.  “This model can image specimens from the smallest to some of the larger specimens, including mastectomy slices,” commented Trevor Mitchell of DAAX Ltd, UK and Ireland suppliers of Bioptics products
