Distributor sees the benefits of treatment planning system

Pictured during a training session on the new SIT treatment planning system at Vertec Scientific’s headquarters are (standing) radiotherapy product specialists Gavin Adcock and David White with managing director Bill Hipgrave and SIT executive vice president Francesco Zanetti. SIT’s intraoperative electron radiotherapy (IOeRT) treatment planning system will be launched in the UK this month.

Vertec says the system will create a real change in IOeRT clinical practice. “Featuring real-time imaging and dose calculation, the operator can virtually plan on the patient’s image all the available treatment options and evaluate the different dosimetric outcomes/DVH before employing the actual applicator. Once the simulation satisfies the operator, real-time image-guided docking makes sure the actual applicator is positioned exactly where the virtual one was planned, so an extremely precise treatment can then be delivered.”

The SIT system will be marketed in the UK by Vertec. Hipgrave said: “Vertec is making an extra drive to introduce the SIT system to British radiation therapy practitioners. The availability of a treatment planning system with this accuracy will help to establish SIT as the leader in the technology.”
