Dockable table smooths transfer of bed patients

At Guy’s Hospital, London, are superintendent radiographer John Spence, Siemens Healthcare regional sales manager Malcolm Pickering and consultant radiologist Dr Zaid Viney, with senior radiographer Dawn Robinson on the couch.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust has installed a Magnetom Aera 1.5T MRI system from Siemens Healthcare at Guy’s Hospital.  The multi-purpose system is being used for a wide range of examinations such as breast MRI, head imaging, orthopaedics and neuroimaging.

The wide 70cm bore is able to accommodate a variety of patient sizes, allowing many examinations to be completed with the patient’s head outside the bore.

The system is equipped with a Tim (Total imaging matrix) dockable table option.  To help prepare the patient for scanning outside the room and smoothly docks onto the MRI scanner.

“The Aera’s detachable table is beneficial as it is easier for transferring bed patients, such as those with cord compression and for use in emergency situations,” said head of radiology services Kim Robertson.
