Dose reduction is beyond expectations at Wexford

With Wexford General Hospital’s Somatom  Definition AS 64 CT scanner are Siemens Ireland applications specialists Julie Prendergast and Mark Woods, radiographer Tanya O’Leary, radiology services manager Crona Carew, Siemens Ireland modality manager Sean Harrison, CT clinical specialist Liz D’Arcy and consultant radiologists Dr John Morris and Dr Tadgh Gleeson.

Wexford General Hospital has seen reductions in radiation dose for patient examinations since the installation of a CT scanner equipped with dose-reducing applications from Siemens.

Clinical specialist in CT Liz D’Arcy said: “A recent audit of our head doses showed that we have been able to reduce dose by 73.3% when compared to the recently published Irish National dose levels.  This level of reduction is much more than we thought possible.  We can and do use Safire in our normal daily clinical routine, not just for special cases.  We are delighted with the results as the total CT dose to our patient population has fallen significantly.”
