UKIO 2026

UKIO was held in Liverpool, with the theme Putting Humanity at the Centre of Healthcare: In the Age of the Machine.

This year’s plenary sessions included surgeon, teacher, entrepreneur, futurist and humanitarian Professor Shafi Ahmed on the evolution of AI transforming healthcare; a panel discussion on the AI in imaging paradox chaired by Signify Research’s Steve Holloway; and the inaugural Presidents’ Awards.
UKIO president Dr Shah Islam said: “Healthcare is a human science, and it is the work of front-line caregivers that has the deepest impact on patients in their time of need. I want UKIO 2026 to be a celebration of that work and the people that deliver it. I’m delighted to introduce the inaugural UKIO Presidents’ Awards to recognise excellence in individuals, teams and workplace initiatives.”

The annual awards recognised Melanie Clarkson as educator of the year, with Rob Chuter winning the sustainability initiative category and Philips’ Chris Taylor named as the year’s industry leader. Dr David Kean won Innovator of the Year, while Dr Sami Khan received the Presidents’ Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Imaging or Oncology.

As well as representation from across the UK imaging and oncology communities, international delegates from more than 30 other countries were in attendance, including recipients of the Radiology and Oncology Congresses bursary scheme.

The next conference is scheduled for June 7-9, 2027, at Liverpool Experience Campus.
