Faxitron upgrade at QEII

The Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal was established in 1998 to raise funds to build a comprehensive diagnostic breast unit in Hertfordshire.

Initially, specimen radiographs were obtained on an analogue mammography unit in the radiology department of the main hospital.  Results were delayed while specimens were sent away and films returned.

In 2005, a Faxitron MX-20 was installed which removed delays and enhanced service.  Operating times have been reduced; image quality improved and specimen radiography is now used more frequently.

The unit has now upgraded to a Faxitron MX-20 DC-12, making set-up quicker and simpler.  Image transfer to PACS is seamless and allows images to be reviewed in multidisciplinary meetings.
