Ribbon-cutting ceremony at Siemens Healthineers Llanberis

Siemens Healthineers welcomed First Minister of Wales Eluned Morgan to officially open its new building, marking the establishment of the IMMULITE Centre of Excellence for Immunoassay and Allergen Diagnostics at the 36-acre site in Llanberis, Gwynedd. At the heart of the site is a dedicated critical raw materials manufacturing facility and new instrument manufacturing capabilities, in addition to a growing research and development department. The expansion secures more than 400 existing roles and creates 100 highly skilled roles, supported by a new onsite training centre for north-west Europe.

The critical raw materials facility will ensure a supply of raw materials for global immunoassay production, including conjugated antibodies and allergens. Meanwhile, the expanded instrument manufacturing facilities serve as the global manufacturing hub for the IMMULITE blood analysis system, supporting hospitals and laboratories in over 50 countries with diagnostics for allergies, fertility issues and thyroid disorders.

With the commemorative plaque unveiled at the offi cial opening of the new IMMULITE Centre of Excellence are Siemens Healthineers Llanberis MD Annette Crowley-Luke, chief fi nance offi cer of specialty lab solutions business line Christian Viefers, head of specialty lab solutions supply chain and manufacturing Lisa Cratty and First Minister of Wales Eluned Morgan

Morgan commented: “I welcome the opening of the Centre of Excellence and the long-term commitment of Siemens Healthineers to Llanberis, which will secure hundreds of high quality jobs in the area. This is exactly the type of investment we want in Wales, especially in an area not traditionally associated with large scale manufacturing. I cannot overstate how important it is to so many people in the community that these highly skilled, well paid jobs are supported. We successfully secured this centre despite strong international competition, thanks to the vital support of the Welsh Government, which played a key role in turning this investment opportunity into a reality.”
