Foot imaging step boosts patient safety during x-ray

Salford Royal Hospital in Manchester, part of Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, has taken delivery of a Lateral Foot Imaging Step from Rothband. After a trial during which staff were able to evaluate the step in action, the team decided to make it a permanent addition to their department.
The double handrails and stable platform base are designed to make the patient feel secure during an examination. The step can be moved around easily by tilting slightly onto the wheels fitted at the rear. Rothband, which is based in Haslingden, offers a number of other platforms for these types of examinations, but this particular step was a good fit for the hospital’s requirements.
Radiographer John Alarcon said: “We wanted better steps for weight-bearing foot and ankle x-rays than the ones we had used. These new steps have plenty of space for patients to manoeuvre into position and are great for patient safety. Their sturdy design and handrails instil confidence in patients, which is really important when x-raying during our busy standing lower limb clinics.”
