Lighter aprons for Great Western radiology staff

News

Pictured at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon, is part of the radiology department team, from left, superintendent radiographer Jackie Woodcock, clinical support worker Jan Osman, consultant radiologist Dr Ann Jones, specialist radiographer Carol Argar, clinical support worker Wendy Hicks, specialist radiographer Kath Foley and Vertec Product Sales Specialist Nikki Mara.

The occasion was the handover of a selection of Scanflex lightweight aprons which replaced older, heavier radiation protection.

The Scanflex Medical aprons, exclusively distributed in the UK by Vertec Scientific, feature a breathable inner layer and have a Velcro and fixlock fastening. The aprons weigh up to 30% less than conventional aprons and, because this weight is distributed evenly across the shoulders and waist, back strain is significantly reduced. Optional thyroid collars use a magnetic fastener rather than Velcro.  Superintendent Jackie Woodcock commented: “Not only is the lighter weight most welcome, but they are very easy to keep clean and disinfect.”
