Pictured in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London with a GE Healthcare Logiq e portable ultrasound system are consultant paediatric intensivist Dr Sandra Gala-Peralta, GE Healthcare point-of-care ultrasound sales specialist Corne Swart and a clinical fellow Dr Nirmala Chakkalakal.

This is the first newly-developed Logiq e to be installed in the UK. It features a programmable transducer with buttons that allow for simple and precise use of portable ultrasound at the point of care.

Dr Gala-Peralta said: “Our PICU expects to be able to improve patient care with this system as it will allow us to perform high quality ultrasound of our patients in their beds. Also, because it will be simple to use by any doctor working in the unit, we hope it will help us to minimise in-hospital transfer of extremely sick patients to the radiology department for ultrasound diagnostic tests. We will be able to simultaneously upload these images to our hospitals radiology system.”
