The Medical Thought Leadership event in London

Provider of teleradiology services Medica has launched its 2025 Thought Leadership Series with events in London and Edinburgh, bringing together experts from across healthcare and technology to explore the future of radiology.

The series, titled Shaping the Future of Radiology – AI, Discrepancies and Innovation, aims to foster dialogue and share insight into how radiology can evolve through innovation, discrepancy management and the responsible integration of AI.

Hosted at the Royal Society of Medicine, London, the first event welcomed healthcare professionals and Medica clients and colleagues in person and virtually. The session was chaired by Medica chief medical officer Dr Rob Lavis and featured contributions from Medica clinical safety and audit officer Dr Garry Pettet, consultant paediatric radiologist Dr Robert Hawkes from Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and consultant radiologist and governance lead Dr Rebecca Leung from Princess Royal University Hospital, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London.

The panel discussed how radiology can expand its impact not only by growing the workforce, but also by reducing clinicians’ cognitive load, learning from discrepancies and leveraging AI to enhance decision making.

The second event took place at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, with a different panel of speakers and a strong audience turnout. Speakers included Dr Pettet, Microsoft Health and Life Sciences chief scientific officer Matt Lungren and Radiology IT and AI lead Dr Struan Wilkie from NHS Grampian.

Presentations explored the intersection of radiology and AI, how to harness data to reduce discrepancies, and the broader implications of innovation for clinical practice and patient outcomes.

Recordings of both sessions will be available on the Medica website. The next location in the series is Dublin in the last quarter of 2025, with details to be announced soon.
