Maidstone hospital welcomes first patient to MRI scanner

Unit manager Lesley Harmes and first patient Hasseena Winter.

Maidstone resident Hasseena Winter was the first to benefit from BMI The Somerfield Hospital’s GE Optima wide bore MRI scanner, which was opened by crime author Martina Cole.

The equipment, which was made available by Alliance Medical, will ensure an improved scanning experience for patients, particularly those suffering from claustrophobia, pain and mobility issues or respiratory problems.

BMI The Somerfield Hospital executive director Connie Stocker said: “We are delighted that the new scanner will help benefit patients like Hasseena.  This addition will significantly improve the ability of the hospital’s specialists to diagnose a range of conditions and disorders, enabling them to offer the appropriate treatment to patients more quickly.”
