Mammography sevices across Northern Ireland transformed

The Northern Ireland Breast Screening Programme is future-proofing its imaging services with the help of 14 mobile and static Mammomat Inspiration full field digital mammography systems from Siemens Healthcare.  Digital technology is replacing analogue systems to offer more rapid imaging to accommodate an increase in population.

With the growing rise in demand for screening, the need  to increase throughout  led to a tender process after which the 14 units were installed across Northern Ireland health and social care trusts.

Belfast Health and Social Care Trust breast imaging services manager Hilary Speers said: “The digital systems have been embraced by mammographers, who find it straight-forward and satisfying to become competent with the digital technology.  Positive feedback has been received from women who have attended screening post digital implementation.”
