Medica hosts Shaping the Future of Radiology: AI, Audit, and Error Reduction thought leadership event

Medica hosted its third thought leadership event of the year, Shaping the Future of Radiology: AI, Audit, and Error Reduction, at The Spencer Hotel in Dublin in November. The hybrid event welcomed a large turnout of attendees both in person and online, bringing together radiology professionals, digital health leaders, and clinical experts from around the world for an evening of discussion and insight into the evolving landscape of diagnostic imaging.
The event was chaired by Dr Jonathan Richenberg, who guided the programme and moderated discussions on the latest developments in artificial intelligence, clinical audit, and error reduction. His role helped ensure a structured and engaging dialogue throughout the evening, encouraging interaction between speakers and attendees.
Event highlights
The programme featured presentations from leading voices in radiology and healthcare innovation. Professor Ronan Killeen highlighted how large-scale radiology audits can improve patient safety and clinical value and offered practical insights into using technology for system-wide oversight. Dr Amrita Kumar shared lessons from integrating AI into clinical workflows, emphasising the importance of trust, transparency, and robust governance in deploying AI safely. Professor Adrian Brady explored the common causes of error in radiology reporting and examined the ways AI can support more accurate decision-making without replacing clinical judgment. Professor Gabrielle Colleran discussed advances in paediatric neuroradiology, focusing on AI applications, potential benefits, and the challenges of implementation in sensitive clinical contexts.
Speakers consistently emphasised the need for innovation to be guided by evidence-based practice, strong governance, and patient-centred principles. Attendees actively engaged with the speakers through live Q&A sessions and interactive discussions, reflecting a strong appetite for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and learning across the global radiology community.
Voices from the event
AI clinical lead for Medica, and speaker, Dr Amrita Kumar said: “Having implemented AI across multiple clinical settings, I’ve learned that success depends less on the technology itself and more on shared understanding between all stakeholders. Forums like this accelerate progress by allowing us to learn from each other’s challenges and successes, turning isolated innovations into systematic improvements in patient care.”
Amrita’s perspective on collaboration and shared learning was echoed by Medica Ireland managing director Caroline Byrne, who added: “The energy and engagement at our event in Dublin were truly exceptional. It was inspiring to see such a strong appetite for open, meaningful conversations about the future of radiology, and to hear from speakers who challenged us to think differently about AI, audit, and clinical safety. I’m immensely proud of the collaboration across our community and excited to build on this momentum as we look ahead to future Medica Thought Leadership events – including our next session in Ireland in 2026.”
Looking ahead
The event highlighted the growing role of AI and audit in shaping the future of radiology, demonstrating how technology can be thoughtfully integrated into clinical practice to improve accuracy, patient safety, and overall clinical value. Medica will share further insights and key takeaways in the coming weeks, continuing the conversation on how innovation, governance, and technology can advance radiology practice globally.
